Under federal law 49 CFR Part 391.51, drivers involved in commerce. You must retain verification on file of their drivers’ legal and physical ability to operate the vehicle in their class. This involves pulling a driving history, a previous employment history, a 3 year inquiry to state agencies, driver’s road test certificate, annual driver’s certificate of violations, as well as other pertinent documents relating to the specific driver’s public record. These files need to be updated yearly.
